1 孰如智者、孰达事理乎、人有智慧、光辉见于其面、厉色变更、

2 我曰、当守王命、因指上帝而誓矣、

3 事王勿急退、勿怙恶、盖王所悦者则行之、

4 王言有权、孰能语之曰、尔何为哉、

5 守命之人、不遇祸患、智者之心、识时知鞫、

6 事有其时、鞫有其期、以人之重负难堪也、

7 未来之事、彼不之知、其事之终、孰能告之、

8 人无权以制生气、亦无权以制死日、临陈不得幸免、行恶不能自救、○

9 此皆我所见者、专心详察日下所作诸事、见操权者、有时使人受害、

10 又见作恶者葬而归墓、行正者离乎圣地、见忘于邑中、斯亦虚空、

11 行恶定罪、而不即罚、人则决志为恶、

12 罪人作恶百次、而享遐龄、然我深知寅畏上帝者、必获福祉、

13 惟彼恶者、不获福祉、不享遐龄、其日如影、以其不畏上帝也、

14 世有虚空之事、有义人所遭、依恶人所作、有恶人所遇、依义人所为、我谓斯亦虚空、

15 我遂揄扬喜乐、盖饮食懽愉、人在日下无愈于此、上帝使人生于日下、此福恒在勤劳之中、○

16 我专心欲明智慧、而察世间之事、有昼夜不寐者、

17 我见上帝之经纶、知人不能测日下所为之事、虽劳而求之、终不能得、智者虽欲知之、亦不能得也、
