1 非利士人集其军旅于亚弗、以色列人建营于耶斯列泉旁、

2 非利士牧伯率军、或百或千、向前而进、大卫与其从者偕亚吉、随诸其后、

3 非利士牧伯曰、此希伯来人何为、亚吉曰、此非以色列王扫罗臣仆大卫乎、彼与我偕、有日有年、自投诚至今、未见其有过、

4 牧伯怒亚吉曰、可使此人返尔所置之地、毋令偕我出战、恐战陈之间、反为我敌、彼欲与其主和、何所需耶、非以我众之首级乎、

5 昔有人舞蹈唱和曰、扫罗杀其千千、大卫杀其万万、非此大卫乎、

6 亚吉召大卫曰、我指维生之耶和华而誓、尔乃端正、偕我出入军中、我视为善、自尔来归、未尝见尔有恶、惟牧伯不爱尔、

7 今当安然以归、勿使牧伯不悦、

8 大卫曰、我何所为、自我从尔、至于今日、尔视尔仆有何事故、不容往攻我主我王之敌、

9 亚吉曰、尔在我前为善、如上帝之使然、此我所知、但牧伯谓尔不可偕我往战、

10 尔及尔主之仆、明晨夙兴、及旦而去、

11 翌日、大卫与从者夙兴、归非利士地、非利士人遂往耶斯列、
